On open water, through the middle of the day
Dragon boat crews train on open water, often at sunrise or in the early evening around work, and race at regattas that run from morning until late afternoon. A race lasts a few minutes, but a regatta day is spent on the water, in the marshalling area and on the shore waiting for the next heat.
On the water the sun comes from above and also comes back off the surface, and there is no cover in the boat. Twenty paddlers, a drummer and a steerer sit in the same light for every session.
Why cover matters
Paddling works the shoulders and arms, so a crew top has to move freely and dry quickly between pieces of work. Long sleeves in a tight knit give the whole crew more cover without getting in the way of the stroke.
Paddlers who prefer short sleeves can add Sun Sleeves, and the Sun Hoodie keeps the crew covered on the shore between races. Everything is printed in the club colours, so a crew is easy to find at a busy regatta.
The pieces
- Long sleeve top
- A light jersey with raglan sleeves, made for the reach and pull of the stroke.
- Shorts
- Short in the leg, with an elastic waist and a drawcord, so nothing catches on the seat.
- Sun Sleeves
- A pair of sleeves for paddlers who prefer short sleeves.
- Sun Hoodie for the shore
- Our hoodie in the crew colours, for the time between races.
What makes it Rezzella

A tight knit, never open mesh where the sun hits. Our fabric goes to ARPANSA, Australia’s radiation protection agency, for testing to AS/NZS 4399 before the first run. The full report goes on the shirt test page.
Cool in the heat
Light, quick drying fabric for training, match days and long days outside in hot weather.
More cover when you want it
Long sleeves for the whole team, or Sun Sleeves for anyone in a sleeveless jersey or short sleeves.
The shirt test
A UV card for every person on the team. Hold it in the sun, then under the jersey, and see the difference for yourselves.

Questions
Do you make kits for a full crew and the reserves?
Yes. A standard boat carries 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer, and the minimum is 10 pieces per design, so a full crew with reserves is well above it. Sizes can be mixed.
How does the fabric handle water and spray?
It is light and quick drying, and the colours, names and numbers are sublimated into it rather than printed on top, so they do not crack or peel.
Can the club name go on the back?
Yes. A club name, a crew name or each paddler’s name can go across the back, with numbers if you want them, and your crest on the front.
